The Communications and information Technology Commission (CITC) announced the dates for beginning the Arabic domain names registration under the Saudi Arabic ccTld (.السعودية). The registration will be opened in two phases. In the first , due to begin on 31-May-2010 and ends on 12-July-2010, government and official entities along with the trade marks owners will be able to submit their registration orders to register their names as an Arabic domain names.
In the second phase, which will start on 27-September-2010, the registration is opened for all the interested parties on first-come-first-served bases.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has in January 2010 got preliminary approval for Internet addresses written entirely in Arabic scripts.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, known as ICANN announced on January 2010 that Egypt, Russia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are the first countries to win preliminary approval for Internet addresses written entirely in their native scripts.
Meanwhile, at the end of October, 2009, ICANN board adopted a decision to develop a "fast-track" mechanism for domain names in languages such as Chinese, Korean, Arabic and others that do not use the Latin alphabet. ICANN said at its meeting in Seoul that it would be allowing limited use of such character sets by the end of the year. The meeting was held from 25-30 October 2009.
