A survey has suggested graduates are failing to include communication and tech skills on their CVs – despite business wanting to know.

The majority of recent graduates aren’t putting mobile communication and other technology skills on their CVs, according to a new study.

The T-Mobile survey of 500 graduates and 500 small businesses found 84 per cent of university leavers neglected to mention their techie skills on their CV, despite three-quarters of them believing they had the technical skills to support mobile working.

The poll found half of employers value new staff who have skills using laptops, mobile technology and the internet.

Considering 39 per cent of the surveyed employers said they’d be cutting the number of new graduates they hire, and 27 per cent said they’d be more likely to look for graduates with tech skills, it’s worth updating the CV, then.

Roger Tweedy of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) said: “It is great that today’s graduates would feel confident working remotely and we need to convince them that these skills are not possessed by everyone, are valuable to employers and are well worth highlighting in their CVs.”
