In the name of Allah, Most Benevolent, Most Merciful.

As the government has realized the importance of communications and information technology in today’s world, the royal decree No. A/2, dated 28/2/1424H. (1/5/2003) was issued to change the name of the Ministry of Posts, Telegraphs and Telephones to “The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology”. This is not a change in the name only, but it addresses the core and underlines the importance of this vital field in modern times. It also reflects the significant concern given by the government to the communications and information technology sector. Moreover, it shows that the government is exerting utmost efforts for developing and upgrading this sector to serve the objectives of development and modernization process in the Kingdom and at the same time meet the ambitious goals of transfer to information society.
Emanating from its new responsibilities, the ministry embarks on establishing the general policies and developmental plans and programs for the communications and information technology sector. It also supervises, follow-up and executes these polices, plans and programs.
The ministry hopes that the information society concept would be enhanced at both public and private sectors through the preparation of a comprehensive national plan that meets the needs and ambitions of the society and creates new job opportunities for youth, which in turn, will further boost the economy and development.
