
H.E. Eng. Mohamed Jamil Mulla, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology has opened on Tuesday February 9, 2010 (25 Safar 1431H.), the Data Centre of Detecon Al Saudia Company Ltd. (DETASAD).
In press statements following the inauguration ceremony, Eng. Mulla explained that the role of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) is complementary. He ruled out any overlap between the two, adding that MCIT role is confined to policy and legislation, while CITC is tasked with regulating the sector, solving problems arise between service providers and also dealing with the pricing issue.
The Minister noted that the Centre been opened provides transition and transfer and storage of data for both public and private sectors, adding that it would also assist the public sector in term of measures pertaining to the storage and archiving of data. He pointed out that these companies offer significant services considered a step forward in term of transfer to e-transactions I particular for SMEs.
The Minister expressed the readiness of MCIT for providing advisory and technical services to all government departments asking for these services.
The Minister disclosed that MCIT, through the National Communications and Information Technology Plan (NCIP), has initiated a program under the name “ICT computer literacy caravans,” adding that caravans are fully equipped with computers and that these caravan will tour the Kingdom’s villages and hamlets to educate the population of these areas about this technology.
