WSIS Forum 2019

24 Dec 2018

From 08 Apr 2019 To 12 Apr 2019

The World Summit Forum on the Information Society (WSIS 2019) will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, between 08-12/04/2019, under the theme “Information and Knowledge Societies for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals."

The WSIS Forum represents the world’s largest annual gathering of the ‘ICT for development’ community (ICT4D). It is co-organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), UNESCO, UNCTAD and UNDP, in close collaboration with a large number of international organizations, including WIPO, ILO, UPU, WHO and WFP.

This event provides an opportunity for information exchange, knowledge creation and sharing of best practices, while identifying emerging trends and fostering partnerships, taking into account the evolving Information and Knowledge Societies. It comes in follow up to the outcomes of the UN General Assembly Overall Review of the Implementation of WSIS Outcomes and with the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

WSIS 2019 will conclude by announcing prizes for the winning projects. The WSIS Prizes contest is a mechanism to evaluate and reward stakeholders for their efforts in the implementation of WSIS outcomes. It aims to identify and showcase the success stories and models that could be replicated, to empower the community at the local level. The 18 winners of the WSIS Prizes will be honored for their achievements at the WSIS Prizes ceremony.

In 2019, WSIS will celebrate its 10th anniversary of the establishment of WSIS Forum from April 8 to 12,  thereby continuing to provide a platform for a “just and equal information society” for all WSIS Stakeholders as set by the Geneva Plan of Action.
