In a visit to Wireless Broadband deployment projects in Al-Ahsa, His Excellency Eng. Abdullah Al-Swaha, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, commended the great role played by the people of Al-Ahsa Governorate in supporting and following up the progress of the Ministry's ongoing projects to deploy Wireless Broadband services in Al-Ahsa’s remote areas, where over 100 villages and hamlets have been connected. He also noted that the Ministry is working to provide Fiber-optic Broadband services to more than 140,000 homes in Al-Ahsa by the end of 2020.

During an open meeting hosted by Al-Ahsa Chamber on Sunday, 20 September 2018, in the presence of Deputy Mayor Mr. Moath Al-Jaafari and a number of business men and women in Al-Ahsa, Eng. Al-Swaha pointed out that the strategic orientations for the Saudi ICT sector would enable meeting the requirements of Vision 2030 realization as well as supporting the GDP growth, enhancing competitiveness and supporting indicators of digital transformation. In addition, he highlighted the quantum leap made in the province in the quality of telecom services and the Internet, touching on the ways to enable the Governorate digitally. He also reviewed the Ministry's efforts in developing incentive tools and policies for investment in the ICT sector, and the role of the CITC in regulating and protecting the rights of users, investors and service providers and enabling fair competitiveness.

For his part, the Chairman of Al-Ahsa Chamber welcomed the Minister and the Ministry’s team in Al-Ahsa, stressing the Chamber’s keenness and interest to organize and host such important meetings for their role in enhancing contact and integration between all sectors and discussing opportunities for collaboration between partners and investors in the ICT sector, praising the ongoing efforts of the Ministry and the CITC in keeping up with the latest ICT trends and providing the best services to users.

Furthermore, the meeting tackled a number of issues related to the acceleration of digital transformation and the remarkable role played by the Ministry in the provision of all capabilities and tools that contribute to improving the quality of services offered to the customers in all sectors in line with the "Customer First" strategy, as part of its efforts to achieve the goals of the Vision 2030.

The meeting witnessed several participants' interventions addressing opportunities to support the local content in the ICT sector by providing innovative digital products and services that contribute to the development process, and supporting Saudi entrepreneurs and innovators in advanced fields such as emerging technologies, data analysis, AI and others. The participants valued the Ministry’s breakthrough in providing telecom and Internet services and extending them to remote areas.
