Minister Al-Swaha: Saudi Arabia plays prominent role in developing global digital economy policies

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia plays a remarkable role in the promotion of global digital economy policies, Minister of Communications and Information Technology H.E. Abdullah Al-Swaha told a gathering of G20 ministers at the G20 Digital Economy Ministerial Meeting held in Tsukuba , Ibaraki, Japan.

The G20 Digital Economy Meeting was attended by G20 communications and IT ministers and experts in preparation for the G20 Summit to be hosted by Japan on June 28 and 29.

“The meeting discussed many issues and policies related to digital economy,” said Minister Al-Swaha.

This meeting handled the importance of finding effective solutions to the challenges facing the rise of global digital economy and digital security to enhance the safety of products and services as top priority.

Among other issues of concern discussed at the meeting were those related to the free flow of authentic data, artificial intelligence for achieving the goals of sustainable development, encouraging innovation and digital entrepreneurship and innovation governance so as to support and empower nascent technologies through appropriate organizational frameworks, developing SMEs to enhance comprehensive economic growth.

Saudi Arabia’s participation in the G20, which includes the most powerful world economies, is of special importance especially due to its effective role in the group that represents 80 percent of the total world trade and some 90 percent of the total global GDP.
