NEOM first 5G-equipped airport in region

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has announced that the NEOM Bay Airport would be the first airport using the fifth generation (5G) network service in the region, demonstrating that the 'City of the Future' has come a long way in becoming the smartest benchmark for the region. As one of the most modern and distinctive airports in the Middle East and strategically located at the border of three countries — Saudi Arabia Jordan and Egypt — it provides a new window to the Red Sea.

This step is a part of MCIT's efforts to utilize advanced technologies and improve quality of life, supporting the Ministry's strategic oriantations toward achieving Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which aims at building a digital society, a digital government, a thriving digital economy, and a better future for the Kingdom.

MCIT is also working to make the best use of the outputs of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, especially the 5G technology, which is expected to lead to a great development in various services and keep pace with the accelerated transformation witnessed by the Kingdom under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense - may Allah protect them.

The launch of 5G service at NEOM Airport is a milestone in MCIT's continuous endeavors to realize the concept of "Empowering Digital Saudi." The move is in line with NEOM's vision as the largest investment project in the world, involving utilization of modern technologies to support innovation with a view to building a knowledge-based economy as well as enriching the smart city of the future, where robots will outnumber human beings, as a unique model and an example of smart cities as present.

The Ministry of Communications is exerting great efforts to support the application of Smart City concepts as a key driver of growth in digital innovation and entrepreneurship. It is also working to attract the world's leading technology companies to help adopt and develop the cutting-edge digital solutions in line with the Kingdom's status that has become a global hub for major technology companies.
