The information and communications technology (ICT) sector is fully ready to provide all means of comfort to the pilgrims in line with the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense -may Allah protect them.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology His Excellency Eng. Abdullah Al-Swaha emphasized this after he had made a checkup tour in the Holy Sites to review the ICT sector’s preparations for this year’s Hajj season. Accompanied by the Governor of Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Ruwais, he visited the sites of telecom operators, network management and digital infrastructure in the Holy Sites, including reviewing 5G networks and their applications in supporting the works and efforts of government agencies during the Hajj season and enriching pilgrims’ digital experience.

During the tour, Al-Swaha was briefed on initial 5G-supported applications, including pilot use of drones and connecting ambulances to health centers, in addition to enriching VR experiences and the use of hologram technology in Islamic preaching and guidance.

The Minister and his accompanying delegation also listened to explanations on all steps to prepare for this year's Hajj season, including operators’ reinforcement of network as well as the technical and human resources to accommodate the regiments of pilgrims flocking to the Holy Sites, the operational plans and relevant workforce, technical and technological preparations.

The preparations for this year's Hajj season, supervised by the Ministry represented by CITC in coordination with the licensed providers of ICT services, included deploying thirty-seven 5G stations in the holy sites to achieve the highest levels of coverage and high speed, allowing pilgrims to have access to innovative, quality Internet and telecommunication services. The preparations also included the provision of Wi-Fi Internet services where 5442 access points were deployed in Makkah, Madinah and the Holy Sites.

It is noteworthy that the ICT infrastructure in Makkah, Madinah and the Holy Sites is of the largest and most advanced infrastructures in the world, and includes exchanges, cabins, towers and wireless stations of the 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G to serve millions of pilgrims.
