Dates Hackathon set to kick off in Riyadh

Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), in partnership with Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA), Small and Medium Enterprises General Authority (MonshaatSA), National Center for Palms and Dates (NCPD), Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Taibah Valley, is launching Dates Hackathon with the aim of harnessing modern technologies to promote dates production industry in the Kingdom to rank the first globally.

The Hackathon is open to entrepreneurs, innovators and technology experts as well as smart application developers to innovate technical solutions that contribute to higher production efficiency and quality and lower costs. MCIT is inviting those wishing to participate to register as soon as possible on the Hackathon’s website (www.dateshackathon.com). The deadline for registration is 22 September 2019. Over 800 applicants have registered until now.

Over three days at the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, participants will be supported through a range of intensive training programs and workshops to enable them to build prototypes for their innovative solutions. The first three winning projects will be adopted and winners will receive financial prizes amounting to SR 60,000, including SR 30,000 for the first place, SR 20,000 for the second place, and SR 10,000 for the third place.

Through its fields focusing on Industry 4.0 technologies, represented in artificial intelligence (AI), 3D printing, Internet of Things (IoT) and e-Commerce, Dates Hackathon is geared toward finding solutions related to shipping, payment and provision of supplies and tools, in addition to developing technical solutions to the challenges facing the agricultural sector with regard to fighting pests and epidemics, and using modern technologies in the prediction, early diagnosis and prevention, which contributes to the quality and efficiency of production, as well as the expansion and growth in sales and entering new markets, and finally to increasing the economic return.
