MCIT releases framework to empower digital skills of Saudi youth

In order to facilitate the development and employment of digital skills in a common language, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has released a digital skills framework based on the global framework (Skills Framework for the Information Age or SFIA 7). “SFIA 7” is used in 26,000 companies and government entities around the world.

The framework, which will be applied in partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Social Development and the Ministry of Education, aims to serve a range of entities, primarily government companies/agencies and training and educational institutions as well as individuals. It is geared toward developing capabilities and human capital and guiding companies and government entities to adopt the future ICT-based skills to be able to adapt to the expected changes in the labor market.

Deputy Minister for Technology and Digital Capacity Development Dr. Ahmed Al-Thenayyan said, “The release of the Framework comes within MCIT’s action plan in support of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 aimed at empowering Saudi youth and government companies and entities and providing them with the tools of the future that enable them to seize the great opportunities created by the Fourth Industrial Revolution,  in addition building national generations able to cope with the requirements of the global labor market.“ “The Framework will contribute to the Kingdom’s current digital, industrial, economic and social advancement and will have a direct impact on the performance of beneficiary government companies and entities, which will reinforce the status and excellence of the Kingdom," Al-Thenayyan added.

Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) is a practical resource for people who manage or work in or around information and communication technologies, digital transformation and software engineering. It provides a framework consisting of professional skills on one axis and seven levels of responsibility on the other. In addition, it describes the professional skills at various levels of competence and the levels of responsibility in terms of generic attributes of Autonomy, Influence, Complexity, Knowledge and Business Skills.
