Saudi Arabia amongst top 10 countries in United Nations E-Commerce Index

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has made great progress in the E-commerce Index issued by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD B2C E-commerce Index). KSA ranked in the forefront with the most developing countries in the index to be among the top 10 countries in the e-commerce sector, advancing 3 places on the general index to rank 49 globally.

The newly released report indicated that the improvement achieved by the Kingdom was measured according to two criteria. The first is the remarkable increase in the Internet use among individuals (93%) as a result of the great efforts made by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and integration with its partners in the ICT ecosystem.  The other criterion is the postal reliability, measured by reliability, access, connectivity and flexibility. In this respect, the Kingdom achieved a clear progress, jumping to 93% instead of 80% for the last year, through the liberalization of the postal and logistic services.

Commenting on this advancement, Minister of Communications and Information Technology H.E. Engineer Abdullah Al-Swaha highlighted that this achievement came as a result of the unlimited support from the leadership, which was reflected in the advanced level reached by the Kingdom’s ICT sector, which contributed to establishing a solid digital structure. He indicated that the Ministry, through its five-year strategy (ICT Strategy 2023), is working with partners to develop the Kingdom's digital capabilities in the ICT field and invest it in an optimal way for growing its future projects, with a view to achieving the Kingdom's Vision 2030, serving individuals and societies, and keeping pace with the national requirements and global developments.

Minister Al-Swaha pointed out that the Kingdom's progress in the UNCTAD B2C E-commerce Index will more stimulate the adoption of the best global practices in this field, in addition to enhancing consumer confidence in e-commerce.
