Saudi Arabia inaugurates ‘digital signature’ service for banking

His Excellency Eng. Abdullah Al-Swaha today sponsored the ceremony for launching the digital signature service for the Saudi Fransi Banque, to be the first bank in Saudi Arabia utilizing this digital service. The licenses for digital signature service is granted by the National Center for Digital Certification (NCDC), affiliated with the e-Government Program (Yesser). This service is the first to be launched in the MENA region within the integrated digital banking ecosystem.

During the inauguration, His Excellency Eng. Al-Swaha stressed that the digital signature is one of the main requirements for digital transformation. He indicated that the ministry is seeking to enable all individuals and businesses to take full advantage of modern technologies as well as to enhance confidence in electronic transactions in a manner that contributes to accelerating the process of digital transformation, in addition to supporting the Kingdom's Vision 2030, aimed at promoting the role of the ICT sector in building a digital society, a digital government and a thriving digital economy.

With the launch of the service, the digital signature will soon be available to individuals with all banking services, within a new qualitative shift for electronic and digital transactions in the Kingdom, which will improve the user experience in electronic transactions, especially banking, through enabling faster transactions, saving thousands of papers, together with implementing digital signature transactions from anywhere without having to visit banks. This step will contribute to higher reliability and efficiency of the banking transactions for individuals and businesses and reduction of the operational costs of banks.

It is worth mentioning that the NCDC seeks to provide an integrated ecosystem for public key infrastructure management, on which all electronic transactions such as those of e-commerce and e-Government are based. This ecosystem enables online transactors of all categories (Government, citizens and businesses) to conduct all processes with reliability and confidentially.
