During an inspection field visit to the fiber-optic project in Dammam, His Excellency Eng. Abdullah Al-Swaha, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, emphasized that the efforts to deploy high-speed internet in cities and urban areas in the Kingdom are proceeding according to the pre-planned schedule, stressing the ministry's harnessing of all capabilities and resources to support efforts to expedite the deployment of fiber-optic technology throughout the Kingdom and covering 2 million homes by 2020, with a view to provide service to the largest possible number of customers and to enable them to benefit from high-speed Internet services. Eng. Al-Swaha also pointed out that the service had been delivered to over​ 270,000 homes so far through the fiber-optic broadband deployment project, indicating that the work is underway to cover the rest of homes in all urban areas.

This came during Al-Swaha’s inspection field visit in which he was briefed on the project's works in Al-Nakheel Neighborhood, Abdullah Fouad Neighborhood and Al-Shoala Neighborhood in Dammam.

Furthermore, Al-Swaha noted that the ministry is working by leaps and bounds to deploy fiber-optic networks in the urban areas and enhance the efficiency of networks so as to develop a strong telecommunication infrastructure that accelerates the digital transformation and transition to the knowledge-based economy in line with the goals of the National Transformation Program 2020​, and in implementation of the Vision 2030, aimed at reinforcing the role of the telecommunication sector in building a digital society, digital government and digital economy, alluding to the ministry's keenness to continue improving the quality of services provided to customers, citizens and residents, in all sectors in line with the “customer first” strategy.
