His Excellency Eng. Abdullah Al-Swaha, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, affirmed that the transition to the Industry 4.0 era has strengthened the position of the ICT sector and made it a fundamental pillar of development in all aspects of life. He expressed his optimism about the Kingdom's ability to rank among the top 15 global models in digital transformation. He also commended the great support provided by the Kingdom’s leaders –may Allah support them- to this vital and important sector, building on the accumulated sector’s achievements, the new strategic orientations launched by the ministry recently and the assistance from the affiliated and government entities, as well as the support of the private sector represented by STC and their partners.

This came during the field visit carried out by Eng. Al-Swaha with Khalid bin Mushait, Mayor of Khamis Mushait Governorate, and a number of the ministry's leaders last Sunday, where Al-Swaha inspected the progress of a wireless broadband project executed by Zain in a sample of the villages of Khamis Mushait Governorate. The minister and his accompanying delegation conducted field measurements for the speed of the wireless broadband Internet in these villages, including sites of schools and government facilities.

The inspection tour was aimed at inspecting the services provided to citizens and ensuring the progress of the project and quality of service in favor of the public interest, where the minister inspected a randomly-selected sample of villages, including Ghaithan, Al-Sadr and Al Theeb Alulya.

Al-Swaha stressed the Ministry's keenness to activate the values ​​of partnership with the private sector, encourage investment in the development of digital infrastructure, and driving the progress of the relevant initiative’s projects according to the planned schedule, consolidated with supervision and follow-up of all execution stages in order to ensure the accuracy and quality of services provided to the society members.

The deployment of wireless broadband networks is one of the ministry’s initiatives -High-speed Internet for Villages and Hamlets Initiative- within the National Transformation Program 2020 under the Vision 2030 and as part of the ministry's plan to deploy high-speed wireless broadband networks to cover 70% of homes in remote areas by 2020, as well as to deploy wireless broadband internet networks to provide telecommunications and Internet services to more residents of districts, villages and hamlets throughout the country. It is noteworthy that the total number of populations served to date has exceeded 19,000 villages and hamlets inhabited by more than four million people in the following provinces: Northern Border Province, Jouf, Hail, Tabuk, Qassim, Madina and Makkah, Eastern Province, Aseer, Baha, Najran and Jazan.
