The National Center for Digital Certification (NCDC) -affiliated with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology- held a workshop entitled 'Digital Certification- Applications and Integration’ in collaboration with the Eastern Province Municipality, on Wednesday, 18 July 2018, at the auditorium of the Municipality in Dammam City.

The workshop is aimed at proliferating awareness, introducing applications, services, integration tools, and solutions related to Public Keys Infrastructure (PKI), in addition to explaining the development of the current applications to rely on PKI, reviewing the resultant benefits, as well as encouraging the government entities to develop the existing applications as well as new applications that rely on PKI.

Eng. Naif Al-Otaibi, Director-General of NCDC, has opened the workshop by welcoming the Mayor of Eastern Province Municipality, H.E. Eng. Fahad Al-Jubeir, and attendees. Eng. Al-Otaibi also thanked the Eastern Region Municipality for the significant effort exerted by its employees in developing e-services, as well as facilitating the procedures of beneficiaries of all categories, stating that the steps taken by the Municipality has raised the quality of the services provided.

For his part, H.E. Eng. Al-Jubeir delivered a speech in which he expressed thanks to the NCDC for the opportunity it had offered the Municipality to organize this workshop, noting that the NCDC is one of the critical pillars in supporting the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. Al-Jubeir also welcomed the workshop participants.

The workshop has covered numerous key themes, including introduction of PKI and its services, such as digital signature, and integration of its applications in the current e-services to improve the performance of procedures, enabling shift from paper-based to integrated electronic systems while protecting data integrity from being tampered or changed, and verifying identity of users, by ensuring that it has a legal force similar to that of the hand-written signature in the e-transactions system. Furthermore, during the workshop, participating entities presented examples in linking, and integrating business applications and e-services with the PKI.
