H.E. Dr. Munir El-Desouki
Assistant Minister of Communications and Information Technology
His Excellency Dr. Munir El-Desouki was appointed Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology by a royal decree in late 2019. Previously, he held several positions in MCIT, including: Deputy Minister for Planning and Development and Senior Advisor to the Minister in 2018.
Prior to joining MCIT, Dr. Munir was as a member of the board of directors of "Serene Sensors Inc." between 2017 and 2018. Meanwhile he was the Supreme Advisor to H.E. Ahmed Al-Khatib at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers between 2017 and 2018.
Formerly, he held various positions in King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, including: Associate Professor (2014-2017), Executive Director of the Materials Science Research Institute (2014-2017), Director of the Solid State Lighting Program (2012-2017), Director General of Innovation and Manufacturing (2015-2016), Assistant Professor (2011-2014), Director of the National Center for Nanotechnology ‘Nano’ (2013-2014), and Director of the KACST/IBM Nanotechnology Centre of Excellence (2012-2014), and Head of the Optical Systems Division (2012-2013), and researcher (2002-2011).
He won the ‘Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Award for inventors and the giftedness (Takreem Award for Inventors & Giftedness) under the category of ‘Gifted’ in 2014 for his invention in the field of electrical engineering called ‘Development by Time Integration.’
He holds Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer in 2010 from McMaster University in Canada, M.Sc. in Entrepreneurial and Innovation Engineering in 2007 from McMaster University, M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and Computer in 2005 from McMaster University, and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering in 2002 from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.
