Minister of Communications and Information Technology

H.E. Eng. Abdullah A. Al-Sawahah is the Minister of Communications and Information Technology in Saudi Arabia since April 22, 2017.​He has more than 15 years of experience and success in IT, entrepreneurship, executive and digital consulting and held several executive positions in the public and private sectors. 
In the public sector, he was the Director-General of Digital Transformation Office in charge of expediting the realization of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 through a digital infrastructure that speeds up the achievement of Vision 2030’s objectives. During his tenure, the Office was able to have rapid gains in launching national digital platforms through the activation of Single Sign-on and shared data. 

In the private sector, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of Cisco Saudi Arabia, which ranks fifth in Cisco's global operations. He held several positions at Cisco, firstly as Regional Manager, then as Operations Manager and, most recently, Vice-President. During his tenure as the Vice-President, Cisco witnessed a significant development in its Saudi operations in several areas. 

Some of his marquee achievements during his time at Cisco: 

- In less than 10 years, Cisco Saudi Arabia has become Cisco's fifth largest operation, with a CAGR of more than 33%, and received the Highest Profitability Award in the Middle East and Europe. 
- Cisco is the first in Saudi Arabia in the technological, knowledge and digital transformation in terms of the market share and positive impact on customer satisfaction and community service. 
- He participated in the launch of Cisco knowledge initiatives such as Cisco Academies programs and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Program, which yielded over 82,000 Saudi graduates since 2005. 
- In 2016, he contributed to signing a partnership agreement between Saudi Arabia and Cisco under the supervision of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, the Deputy Crown Prince, to accelerate the national digital transformation plan, which will spur GDP growth, create many knowledge-based jobs and stimulate innovation. 

H.E. Eng. Abdullah A. Al-Sawahah was also Technical and Executive Advisor from 2005 to 2010 for many entities such as the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice, and Ministry Communication and Information Technology. 

​He has a number of achievements in IT, entrepreneurship and executive and digital consulting, such as:

- He was the founder of the Social Entrepreneurship Incubator (Ubieva) 
- Member of the Board of Directors of the Technology Advisory Council at Prince Mohammed Bin Fahd University and a speaker at several technical symposiums. 
- Member of the Board of Directors of a number of companies and factories. 
- He received several awards, including: “IT Person of the Year” (2013-2016) from ITP Magazine 
- "Best Cisco Middle East Leader Award" in 2012 and 2013 
- "Chairman of the Board Award for Best CEO” for 2016. 

Academic Qualifications: 

- BSc Computer Science from Seattle College in Washington, 
- BSc Electrical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals
- Completion of a number of programs in Executive Education at Harvard Business School.
